East Providence High School soccer squads suffer losses

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams each suffered losses over the last few days, the latter falling for the first time in three Division II contests to date.

The E.P. girls, whose two previous wins this season matched their total for all of last year, were handed a one-sided 8-1 setback on the road in Scituate Thursday afternoon, Sept. 12.

Kyara Ribeiro accounted for the lone Townie tally. According to East Providence head coach Angelo Pizza, the Spartans outplayed the Townies in all aspects of the game despite some solid individual efforts on the part of the locals.

E.P. slipped to 2-1 in the D-II standings with the loss. Scituate improved to 3-0. The Townies return to action Tuesday night, Sept. 17, in Westerly against the 1-1-1 Bulldogs at 6 o’clock.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the EPHS boys’ soccer squad was handed its second loss in as many Division I outings to date, a 5-0 defeat to visiting Chariho. The Townies are in Cumberland for their next contest Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, to face the 0-0-1 Clippers at 4 p.m.
