EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School girls’ soccer team took and offered up the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge” Thursday afternoon, Aug. 28, after the Townies’ preseason practice.

EPHS head coach Angelo Pizzi noted the Townies donated over $100 to ALS and challenged every other athletic program and coaches to get doused in the name of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, most commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” after the former New York Yankee great.

Some 30,000 Americans suffer from the ailment with up to as many as 5,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
