Implementation of Barrington Public Schools’ recently adopted 2012-2017 strategic plan is underway and local officials are once again looking for community participation in the process.
A press release issued this week states that Barrington School is extending an invitation to the Barrington community for participation in new subcommittees that will facilitate implementation of strategic plan.
The subcommittees, through simultaneous work relative to key district issues as identified in the strategic plan, will conduct research and provide recommendations to the school committee to facilitate its decision making process in its quest to move the district forward on its path of continuous improvement.
The subcommittees will be co-chaired by one school committee member and one central office administrator and the anticipated composition of the subcommittees, with the exception of the policy subcommittee, may include building administrators, faculty members, three to five community members and a student.
The subcommittee and their respective charges are as follows:
n All Day Kindergarten (Co-chairs Scott Fuller and Supt. Michael Messore) – Explore options, using best practice research methods and data analysis, for implementation of a district wide all day kindergarten program and make recommendation to the school committee.
n Policy (Co-chairs Patrick Guida and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Paula Dillon) Review and support implementation of all district policies, to include working with superintendent and staff to develop draft policy, present draft policy to school committee for approval and make recommendations regarding revitalization of district policies.
n Strategic communication (co-chairs Kate Brody and Supt. Michael Messore) Develop a district strategic communication plan that supports the district’s strategic goals and enhances the district use of external and internal communications mechanisms, expands opportunities to gather perceptions and viewpoints from diverse segments of faculty, staff and students and community members and strengthens public and student engagement and communication with the school committee and district.
n Technology (Co-chairs Paula Dominguez and Technology Director Katie Miller) Develop an incremental plan leading to the creation of a 21st century learning environment that supports the district’s strategic goals to ensure success for every student, build productive partnerships of education, promote a positive culture, provide optimal learning environments and efficiently/effectively manage fiscal resources.
The school committee welcomes community participation and is seeking subcommittee members, including students, with strong skills in team collaboration, creative thinking and an interest in strategic panning.
Community members are invited to submit an online application at www.barringtonschools.org by the close of business on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Subcommittee co chairs will review all applications with the goal of broad representation from the community and applicants will be notified of their respective subcommittee status by Thursday, March 21, 2013
Please consider joining the Barrington School Committee and district administrators and educators to effect the change that will benefit all students in the Barrington Public Schools. We need your input, including the student perspective, and look forward to your participation in this vital process.
