In that district, games scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings were both bumped up to the afternoon.
The DOH subsequently issued an advisory with tips on how to keep safe from mosquito bites and mosquito-borne illness such as wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants and bug spray if you plan to be outside at sunrise or sundown.
“We have been using precautions to reduce the risk of contact with mosquitos,” wrote Mr. Finn in an e-mail.
“All of our athletic teams have been advised to use bug spray and wear long sleeves and pants when appropriate. At last Friday night’s football game we posted the health advisory and provided insect repellent for spectators and both teams.
“At this time we do not plan to eliminate evening contests, unless absolutely necessary.”
Mr. Finn said school officials will continue to review the high school contest schedule and will move games “if the threat of increased mosquito activity is certain.” Mr. Finn said this review will continue until the season’s first frost.Add to favorites
