The Barrington High School girls’ track team set new school and meet records at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, NH last weekend.

Junior Abigail Livingston was a standout for Barrington. Her 1:35.93 time in the 600 set a new meet record, breaking a mark set in a 2010 by .06 seconds. Livingston’s time also broke a school record of 1:38.60 set in 2008.

Livingston is now ranked fourth nationally in the 600 following her performance. Livingston’s run in the 600 last weekend was only her third time running the event competitively. .

“I wasn’t quite expecting her to go to Dartmouth and break the meet record,” said head coach Steve Turgeon.

The Eagles’ distance medley relay squad also had an impressive meet. The team of Livingston, sophomore Mary Kate Coogan, junior Juliana Potelli and junior Megan Verner-Crist finished second with a time 12:29.57. The group is now ranked seventh in the country in that event.

The same group finished third in the 4X800 with a time of 9:45.30 while Portelli added an individual fifth place finish in the 1,000 with a time of 3:05.70, good enough for third all-time at Barrington High School.

The team finished eighth overall

Earlier last week, the Eagles defeated Pilgrim (56-53) and Tollgate (63-46) in a dual meet. It was the first time Tollgate had lost a dual meet since 1998 and it took Barrington through the final event, the 4X400, to put the Patriots away.

Barrington trailed Pilgrim 53-51 heading into the race though Coogan, Livingston, senior Shenelle Teixeira and freshman Julia Zitzmann combined to post the state’s third fast time this year, taking the dual meet victory.

Freshman Briana Gausland added to the win. The 4X400 victory wouldn’t have mattered without Gausland’s victory (45.1) in the 300. Sophmore Anabella Gagliano’s second place finish in the 1,000 also kept the Eagles within striking distance.

Teixeira, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the 55 meter hurdles at the dual meet. She bested her previous time of 8.96 by .02 seconds.

The Eagles’ victories bring the team’s overall dual meet record to 5-1.

Barrington will compete in its final dual meet of the season next Monday, Jan. 21 against South Kingstown and Hope High School. The team will also travel to the East Coast Invitational this Saturday.
