The Barrington High School girls’ basketball team defeated Woonsocket High School 54-17 at home Tuesday night, Dec. 18.
Caroline Coleman led the way for the Eagles with 17 points, followed by Maggie O’Hayer with 11. Maura Kelty added nine while Caitlyn Nolan scored five.
Assistant coach John West said the entire team contributed to a strong defensive effort from the get-go. He said the squad played good in its half-court sets both in man-to-man to start the game and later, after building a significant lead, in zone coverage.
West also said Nolan was impressive on the boards and leading the way with assists while Coleman, Kelty and O’Hayer all had good nights.
“It was a nice showing on their home court,” West said.
The win brings Barrington a perfect 3-0 on the season. The Eagles are scheduled to play again Thursday evening at home against St. Mary Academy Bay View.
West said the Bengals are always a tough match-up but Barrington’s team chemistry is developing quickly in the young season. He said captains Nolan, O’Hayer and Coleman have been solid leaders who set a “terrific” example for younger players while Kelty has been a strong defense and offensive presence.
