The Barrington High School boys’ indoor track team took home the state Class B Championship Tuesday night.
The Eagles lead Rhode Island’s 12 Class B teams with 112 points, nine points ahead of second place Classical and about 75 points ahead of third place Portsmouth and fourth place Toll Gate.
Senior thrower Charlie Ionata continued his impressive indoor season with a first place finish in the weight throw. His hurl of 75’5.25 set a new meet record. Ionata also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 48’4.5, his best throw this season.
Sophomore Adam Kelly, meanwhile, finished second with a throw of 70’9”, a personal best.
The Eagles added another first place finish in the 4X800. Sophomore Lucas Bledsoe, sophomore Gerald Guerrieri, senior Christian Egglin and senior Tom Barry posted a time of 8:33.2, the group’s best this year.
Barry notched a second first place finish in the 600.
Seniors Connor Royley and Will Casazza finished first and second in the 1,000, respectively, with times of 2:44.5 and 2:46.6. Royley also finished first in the 1,500 with a time of 4:21.1 folowed by Bledsoe in second at 4:37.6 while Casazza finished first in the 3,000 at 9:39.3.
Head coach Bill Barrass described the victory as a great team effort, the latest chapter in a great season. The Eagles head into this Saturday’s state meet as Class and Division champions.
