Another bomb scare at Portsmouth High, students safe

Portsmouth High SchoolPORTSMOUTH — The high school experienced another bomb scare today, but students have been safely evacuated.

Supt. Lynn Krizic alerted parents to the news in a taped phone message just before 1:30 p.m.:

“Portsmouth high school has begun an evacuation after another explosive device threat was found in the building. All students have been safely removed from the high school,” she said, adding that the school has arranged for an earlier bus dismissal.

“The Portsmouth Police Department and Fire Department were immediately called to the scene. As more information becomes available, we will send out an alert notice via e-mail later this evening. “Again, all students are safe and have been removed from the building.”

In response to the threat, all after-school sports at the high school were canceled today, as well as the joint chorus concert that had been scheduled at PHS this evening.

This is the second bomb scare in three days at the school. Late Monday night, custodians found a note in a bathroom that referenced an “explosive device.” No explosives were found.
