It was a big weekend for a pair of Barrington High School throwers.

At the East Coast Invitational on Saturday, senior Charlie Ionata once again broke the high school weight throw record with a hurl of 77’6.5″. It is the fourth time this season Ionata has broken the record and the third time he has eclipsed his personal best.

The throw was also the longest ever seen at the Providence Career and Technical Academy and good enough for first place.

Ionata was named the meet’s MVP thrower.

Sophomore Adam Kelly, meanwhile, finished second with a personal best throw of 69’6″.

The previous day, Ionata and Kelly traveled to the Yale High School Invitational and once again posted noteworthy performances. Ionata’s 73’10″ throw broke the meet record. He finished first with Kelly behind him at third.65’9.25″.
