Young and old alike were treated to the summer sounds of entertainer Doug Botelho, left, during this year's Sip 'n Dip Antique and Classic Car and Bike Cruise Night.
“I hate to see summer go,” said a somewhat dejected Missy Bloomer, a regular at these Wednesday night get-togethers. “I love seeing all these beautiful cars and bikes.”
For local entertainer and deejay Doug Botelho, performing each week during the Series has been a labor of love.
“I’ve always enjoyed being a part of this throughout the summer,” he said. “There are so many great people who come here in each week. We’re like family.”
Mr. Botelho hinted that next year, the Cruise Night series could start a little sooner.
“We usually begin sometime in June,” he explained, “but hopefully, we can start things off in May next year. We’ll be working on it.”
The Sip ‘n Dip Cruise Night has been around for the past six years, but this year, attendance seemed to zoom to new heights.
“We‘ve had some big crowds here,” said Mr. Botelho. “More and more people seem to come each week. And, there are those who enjoy dancing to the music, which is great.”
The brainstorm of local car buffs John Brando and Danny Cabral, the Cruise Night Series has featured some of the most lavish, expensive vintage cars and motorcycles you’ll ever see.
“I started coming here only a couple of weeks ago, and I’m sorry I found out about it as late as I did,” said race car fan Charlotte DeMarco, of Bristol. “My husband, Bill and I, love seeing these great cars and listening to the music of that era. I’ll make sure I tell my sisters and brother about this so they can attend next year.”
Longtime Cruise Night regular Dennis Souza, like many others, enjoys photographing these vintage cars each week. He’s even assembled several scrapbooks documenting the people and cars which have appeared on the premises over the last several years.
This year, the Cruise Night featured added attractions like Cal Raye and Joe Bisbano, each of whom filled in admirably for Doug Botelho on a couple of occasions.
“I really enjoyed coming back here to my hometown to do this for Doug and all these great people,” said singer/deejay Cal Raye. “I met so many of my old friends.”
