The Westport Community Schools has announced the appointment of Elaine Santos as the schools’ new special education director effective August 15. Mrs. Santos is replacing Ann Harkin who is retiring after serving for four years in our district.
“We wish Ms. Harkin well on her retirement. She has made many valuable contributions to our district and especially to our special education programs,” said Ann Dargon, assistant superintendent.
Mrs. Santos received her masters of education from American International College where she majored in special education administration. She received her bachelor of science degree in special education from Bridgewater State University.
Most recently Mrs. Santos has been employed in the Westport school system as the special education supervisor.
Prior to working in Westport, Mrs. Santos worked in the Fall River Public Schools for almost 25 years. She has served as a special education teacher, a team chair facilitator, and an extended school year director.
A meet and greet reception will be held on June 12, from 2:30 – 4 p.m. in the Westport High School Media Center. At that time there will also be the opportunity to say good-bye and good luck to o Ann Harkin, as she embarks on her retirement on August 30.
