prudence santaSanta touched down at Sand Point Light on Prudence Island bright and early (8 a.m.) on Sunday, Dec. 8, after flying in from the southwest  aboard a helicopter. He was assisted by Friends of Flying Santa, an organization that began flying gifts out to lighthouse keepers in 1929. Maine floatplane pilot William Wincapaw started the tradition as a way of thanking those who helped him navigate along the coast by keeping the beacons lit. Glenn Young photos.
