TIVERTON/PORTSMOUTH — An opening ceremony for the new Sakonnet Bridge is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m.. Although the event is not yet officially confirmed, the STOP Committee (the group opposed to the tolls), its organizers have announced, is “calling out its members to attend politely with small signs to protest the imposition of tolls on the new bridge.” The group says “the ceremony will take place on the deck of the old bridge.”
