PRUDENCE ISLAND — At long last, the electric company has restored power to Prudence Island.

Bob Marshall, chief of the island volunteer fire department, reports that the lights came back on shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2.

The problem, he said, involved a limb that had fallen on a line close to where the East Passage electrical cable arrives from Portsmouth at a point just south of Bristol Colony on Prudence. That, in turn, caused a transformer to fail, cutting off power to the island early in the storm.

An electric company truck went to Prudence aboard the early morning Friday ferry and the problem, which had already been diagnosed, was fixed with a replacement transformer.

Mr. Marshall said Prudence weathered the storm in relatively good shape although there was more erosion along Narragnasett Aveue, similar to what occurred during Tropical Storm Irene. Fortunately, he said there were no serious medical emergencies.

Ferry service, which had been cancelled when the bay was closed to shipping, was restored the day after Hurricane Sandy.
