Portsmouth mail ballots: Pedro takes council seat, Reilly loses House race

PORTSMOUTH — The count of mail ballots produced a switch in the town council race and a change in the District 72 House seat.

Republican Liz Pedro has now edged Democrat Len Katzman for the seventh and final town council spot (3,789 votes to 3,786 votes). No announcement yet on whether a recount will be sought. The Democrats still hold majorities on both school committee and town council.

And in the race for the Distrtict 72 House seat, Democrat Linda Finn of Middletown has beaten incumbent Republican Dan Reilly of Portsmouth.

Mr.Reilly said, “In a very competitive election year in which the opposing party was heavily favored, I narrowly lost a very tough fight. I would like to wish my opponent the very best at the State House, and thank her for a civil, productive campaign. I would most importantly like to thank my family, friends, and supporters, who have been with me from the very beginning, and remain committed to supporting my efforts as we chart our course ahead.”
