PORTSMOUTH – Portsmouth High School’s Homecoming Parade steps off around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the corner of East Main Road and Patriots Drive.
The parade will head south on East Main Road toward Turnpike Avenue, then continue west on Turnpike to Memorial Drive, where it will conclude at the football field by around 1 p.m. (The PHS varsity football team plays Cranston West at 1:30 p.m.)
The Portsmouth Police Department has announced the following road closures, according to Lt. Brian Peters:
• East Main Road (for southbound traffic) will be closed just prior to the start of the
parade at Patriots Drive.
• East Main Road (for northbound traffic) will be closed at Turnpike Avenue when
the parade begins.
• Turnpike Avenue will be closed between East Main Road and Memorial Drive.
Motorists are encouraged to use Route 114 (West Main Road) to avoid traffic congestion.
Golf ball drop
The Portsmouth Gridiron Club will hold its annual Helicopter Golf Ball Drop at noon on the football field, prior to the homecoming game.
The first-place prize is $1,000, second place is $500, third place is $250, and fourth- to 10th-place prizes are $100 for the balls closest to the pin. A randomly pre-selected ball recipient will have an opportunity to win $20,000 if their ball is the closest to the pin.
Tickets are $15 each or two or more for $10 each. Tickets can be purchased at West Main Pizza, Clements’ Market, Agway, Beach House, or online at www.myphsfootball.net.
