Dan not only got great seats to the game against the Texas Rangers, he met with many players and other members of the Boston Red Sox organization beforehand.
“We met at the players’ parking lot, received a behind-the-scenes tour of Fenway, met Luis Tiant, threw balls with Tim Wakefield, posed with Clay Buchholz and then the big moment: met with Pedey himself — Dustin Pedroia,” said James McCarty, Dan’s father. “He was great and made Dan’s year!”
Not only that, the second baseman let Dan — a lifelong Red Sox fan — slip on his 2007 World Series ring. Then Pedey went out and hit a home run.
Mr. McCarty said the memorable night was possible only through the generosity of Jeff and Kelly Goss.
“Kelly is Dan’s teacher (at Portsmouth Middle School), Jeff is one of my poker buddies, and they love Dan,” said Mr. McCarty. “After the article ran, Jeff contacted one of his former players and Red Sox employee, Justin Prettyman. Justin gave Dan a night to remember. I can’t thank the Red Sox, the Goss family and Justin enough for what they did to make last night happen. Wonderful people.
“Plus, our seats for the game were amazing! What a night!”
