Three days after closing the beach for swimming due to high bacteria counts, the R.I. Department of Health gave the water quality a pass after another test Friday morning.
The beach was closed late Tuesday afternoon but re-opened shortly before 5 p.m. Friday. Earlier that day, lifeguards Aaron Correia and Griffin Prescott made sure on one entered the water.
“They took a sample this morning and hopefully we’ll hear something back this afternoon,” said Mr. Correia Friday around noon.
According to the health department’s website, Sandy Point Beach has been closed only two times before from 2000 to 2012, for a total of four days.
