As of Monday afternoon, the washed out section of Poppasquash Road was repaired, the asphalt road surface was re-applied and smoothed out and the double yellow lines were repainted. And, for the first time since surges from tropical storm Sandy undermined the culvert that flows beneath the road, motorists are able to travel the picturesque route.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation contracted with Cardi Corporation to make the estimated $1,695,000 in repairs. Winter storms delayed the project beyond its anticipated February completion.
While work to the culvert, road and stone wall was underway, motorists were detoured through Colt State Park to access Coggeshall Farm and the pricey neighborhood that makes up the area.
On Tuesday morning, crews from Cardi Corporation were removing remaining materials and supplies from the area as cars passed over the smooth road.
