Westport Police: Neighbor charged in house break


Friday, Sept. 21

A brush fire was reported off Gifford Road at 11:59 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 22

After responding to a 911 call for a break-in a 1:23 a.m. on Red Cedar Way, police charged Matthew O. Weaver, 37, of 23 Red Cedar Way, Westport, with felony breaking and entering in the nighttime and attempt to commit a crime. Detective Tony Cestodio said that the house’s occupants were visiting a neighbor and returned to find another neighbor, a man they know, inside. His sweatshirt was bulging with items that they said belonged to them Police arrived and arrested Mr. Weaver when he walked down the street.

Monday, Sept. 24

A break-in was reported on Gifford Road at 4:51 p.m.

Police charged Craig M. Desmarais, 33, of 774 State Road with domestic assault after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance on State Road at 9:22 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 26

A break-in was reported on Rock Street at 2:03 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 27

After checking out a report of a suspicious auto on J Drive at 2:47 p.m., police charged Thomas Stevens, 17, of possession to distribute of a Class D drug. Police said he had a scale, plastic baggies and a had full of marijuana. Two juveniles were charged with possession of marijuana.
