TIVERTON – Tiverton police seized 2,560 bags of heroin, 50 oxycodone pills, and $6,454 in cash at a residence on State Avenue in Tiverton early Tuesday evening.
The occupant of the house, Deana Furtado, 40, of 287 State Street, Tiverton, was charged with one count of possession of a scheduled drug with intent to sell, and two additional counts of possession of a scheduled drug, all felonies.
Tiverton Police Captain Patrick Jones said police obtained specific information earlier in the day about what he said was ongoing drug activity at the address, and acting on it, obtained a search warrant, which led later to the seizure and arrest.
“This action is part of a concentrated effort we are making to take illicit narcotics off the streets in Tiverton,” Captain Jones said.
Ms. Furtado was arraigned on all three charges in 2nd District Court in Newport Wednesday, and is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institute (ACI).
Ms. Furtado is the only person charged in connection with Tuesday’s search.
State records show that Ms. Furtado was previously charged on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, with possession of an unspecified scheduled drug, and arraigned and posted bail, on that charge on Feb. 13, in Newport County Superior Court. She is currently scheduled for a violation of bail hearing on March 4 in that court.
