A 4-year-old Maple Avenue girl was bitten by a raccoon last week; the raccoon later tested positive for rabies. The girl’s mother told police she heard her dogs barking outside and when she went out, her daughter said she had been bitten on the finger by a raccoon in the garage. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management was called to the scene and the animal was euthanized. On Tuesday, Aug. 28, Barrington police were notified by the Rhode Island Department of Health that the animal had tested positive for rabies.
