Bristol fire crews are at the scene of a smokey blaze that broke out in a pile of scrap metal at Bristol Metals just before 3 p.m. The location of the fire is in a remote section of the Broadcommon Avenue scrapyard, away from any structures.
A backhoe was being used to knock down the metal to expose the source of the blaze while fire crews sprayed water to douse it.
Workers at the scrapyard continued with their duties as fire apparatus drove through the yard to reach the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and it did not appear to pose any threat to people or property other than the scrap.
