Local firefighters and police, along with units from Tiverton and Middletown, responded at 11:16 a.m.

After a quick assessment of the building’s stability, the driver was easily extricated, according to Deputy Fire Chief Michael O’Brien. The female patient had minor injuries and was transported to Newport Hospital by Portsmouth Ambulance.

The damage to the building and the store was significant but did not compromise the building, as the driver managed to miss load-bearing columns, the deputy chief said.

The Portsmouth building and electrical Inspectors cleared the commercial building to be reoccupied and the scene was released to property owners once the vehicle was removed.

Lou Lou’s Décor is an interior design and decorating business.
