EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Police arrested two groups of young men on charges of larceny up to or above $1,500 among other transgressions in separate incidents over the last week.
Raphael Fragoso Lopes, 18, of 439 Tremont St., Rehoboth, Jonathan Avelino Ortiz Jr., 18, of 80 Evergreen Drive, Apt. 110, East Providence, Matthew Mark Masse, 18, of 411 Glenwood Ave., Apt. 2nd, Pawtucket, and another 17-year-old teen from Rehoboth, were each charged with larceny of up to or above $1,500 for their alleged involvement in break-ins around the Bridgeham Farm Road area in the Rumford section of the city. Each was also charged with conspiracy to commit larceny.
Following the report of the break-ins, East Providence Police officers were on the lookout for a white sedan with a black top. Officers noted such a vehicle in the vicinity of the Shell Service Station located at 2200 Pawtucket Ave. at approximately 3:20 a.m. on June 20.
Upon a visual inspection of the vehicle from the exterior of the car, the responding officer took note of a black Northface backpack, one of the items alleged to have been taken during the theft. After notifying the suspects, police were granted permission to access the vehicle, finding a number of other personal and electronic items also reported stolen, including Droid cell phone, Oakley sunglasses, a Rolex watch and some $90 in cash.
The suspects were made aware of their rights and taken into custody at the nearby East Providence Police Station located on Waterman Avenue.Also in the wee hours of Saturday morning, June 22, city teens were arrested on charges of vandalism, trespassing, larceny up to or above $1,500 and possession of a concealed weapon/non-firearm (knife) after police responded to a suspicious activity call at Wannamoisett Country Club located at 96 Hoyt Ave.
Ryan M. Barry, 18, of 28 Leahy St., Robert M. Royall, 20, of 74 Algonquin Road, and Ryan W. Cute, 19, of 11 Bent Road congregated at the snack bar located near the 12th hole green and 13th hole tee box. One of the men, who apparently once worked at the club, knew the security code to unlock the snack bar. The teens entered, eating and drinking candy bars and beverages. In addition, the men did an unspecified amount of damage to the 12th green surface.
After attempting to flee Wannamoisett personnel and police, each was eventually taken into custody and brought to the station.Add to favorites
