For the second time in seven weeks, a man known as the “bearded bandit” robbed a Barrington bank.

At 5:58 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 11, a white man with a full beard walked into the TD Bank on County Road and ordered employees there to give him money. According to police, the man did not show a weapon during the robbery and reportedly fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police said the same suspect has robbed at least five other banks in the area, including the Bank of America on County Road. That robbery took place on July 26.

According to a press release from the Barrington police, the suspect is in his 30s, stands between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, and has a full beard. It is not clear whether the beard is real or fake. During the recent robbery the suspect wore a blue knit cap and a brown long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt.

On July 26 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the same man entered the Bank of America, which is located next door to the TD Bank. The man did not show a weapon during the Bank of America incident and fled on foot. Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the suspect made off with less than $2,000.

No injuries were reported at either heist.

A press release on the matter stated the suspect is believed to have also been involved in robberies in Cranston, North Providence and Warwick. The first of these robberies, however, is reported to have occurred on Feb. 23 at the Bank of America on Fall River Avenue in Seekonk.

The most recent robbery believed to be perpetrated by the “bearded bandit” took place on Aug. 25 at the TD Bank in Rumford. The length in time between that incident and the Sept. 11 robbery appears to be the shortest period of time between any two incidents connected to the “bearded bandit.” All of the other “bearded bandit” robberies occurred between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

On Thursday, July 19, a $5,000 reward was issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for any information leading to an arrest of the “bearded bandit.”

Anyone with information is asked to please call the Confidential Tip Line of 437-3933 or Barrington Police at 437-3930.
