Police charged 23-year-old Bristol resident Stanton Edward Sturgis, with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs-first offense, blood alcohol level unknown and refusal to submit to a chemical test after he was reportedly discovered asleep at the wheel on Route 114 South just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Police were alerted to Mr. Sturgis’ vehicle by a motorist, who said that a vehicle was weaving back and forth on Route 114 and the vehicle was trying to make a left hand turn with no place to do so.

The caller also told police the vehicle made many stops in the middle of the roadway.

When police discovered the vehicle, it was stopped in the middle of Route 114 South near the intersection of Wampanoag Trail and County Road.

The vehicle’s transmission was in neutral with its brake lights illuminated. Its driver, Mr. Sturgis, appeared to be sleeping.

Police reportedly detected an odor of alcohol and Mr. Sturgis appeared confused. He allegedly offered police two different locations when asked where he was coming from.

Police said Mr. Sturgis experienced difficulty with field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breathalyzer.
