A New Meadow Road couple returned home Thursday evening, Oct. 25, to find both their garage and home had been broken into with about $5,000 worth of jewelry missing.

The couple told police they had been gone from about 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

They first noticed something might be awry when it looked like the garage door had been kicked in.

The couple later noticed an ax was missing, which appeared to have been left in the backyard after it was used to pry open a pair of back sliding doors.
