A transformer and power lines were struck by a falling tree limb near Rockwell School just before 1 p.m., causing local power outage to that area.

Police and fire responded to cordon off Meadow Lane where a fallen tree blocked the road and power lines draped the entrance to the road.

Electrical service to the area was knocked out as a result, leaving the intersections of Gooding Avenue and Hope Street without traffic signal. Police are stationed in that area.

Crews from National Grid have been dispatched to restore service. It is unknown at this time how many power customers are affected.

A fallen tree limb is to blame for a power outage that affected electric customers early Monday afternoon.
