westport fireThere were no injuries when a small plane crashed on takeoff from a private airstrip off Adamsville Road in Westport Sunday.

Westport fire and police departments responded to 419 Adamsville Road at 7:12 a.m. after receiving a call about the accident.  Arriving units found a single-engine ten-passenger plane that had failed to gain enough altitude during takeoff and had crashed into a wooded area approximately 100 feet from the end of the runway.

All five people aboard the plane had gotten out of it prior to the arrival of emergency responders.  All were examined by paramedics who determined that there was no need for transportation to the hospital.

While there was no fire, there was some fuel leakage on the ground.  A HazMat technician from the fire department responded to the accident scene to tend to the spill.
