Newport man jumps to his death

It took a task force of emergency personnel over six hours to locate the body of a Newport man who died jumping off the Mt. Hope Bridge late Thursday night.

The U.S. Coast Guard found the body of Jose Costa, 60, shortly after 5:45 a.m. Friday.

Bristol police received a call at 11 p.m. from Alert Ambulance, which was nearby, stating they witnessed Mr. Costa get out of his car, walk over to the railing, climb over and jumped off.

Bristol Marine, along with rescue personnel from Warren, Middletown, Portsmouth, state police, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management officers and the Coast Guard were notified.
