Newport Creamery fire ruled accidental – restaurant expected to open Wednesday

Newport Creamery, on County Road, sustained smoke damage during a fire Monday night though the exterior appeared OK Tuesday morning.

Newport Creamery, on County Road, sustained smoke damage during a fire Monday night though the exterior appeared OK Tuesday morning.

Officials have ruled Monday’s Newport Creamery fire accidental.

Lt. Edward Owens said the fire is believed to be an accidental electric fire.

A manager at the store called fire fighters at about 10:15 p.m. Monday after smelling smoke in the basement.

The restaurant is expected to be back open Wednesday morning.
