BRISTOL—The sun set over Bristol harbor when the Navy Band Northeast took the stage at Independence Park on Saturday night during the second night of the Bristol Fourth of July Concert Series. In a patriotic gesture, the band’s director Lieutenant Commander Carl Gerhard turned to the large crowd that covered the park to sing the National
Anthem for their first selection. The throng stood up and with hands over hearts they belted out our country’s song. The band followed with precision instrumentals performing a wide range of music including patriotic, classical and big band swing.
Earlier John Monllos and his trio Los Gatos consisting of himself, Joanne Rodino and John Cunha had the audience dancing with classic rock favorites and pop hits. Monllos was one the assistant director of Navy Band Northeast and a member of the United States Navy Band for over 20 years and has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States.
