Rockwell School Principal Tara McAuliffe received an unexpected call on Tuesday. It was from New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft.“He made the call while he was on a plane from London,” she said. “I wasn’t here. I was at a meeting and the nurse took the message.”

When Ms. McAuliffe called the New England Patriots on Wednesday, she learned that Rockwell School was selected to receive a $10,000 grant from the team.

“We don’t have all the details yet,” Ms. McAuliffe said.

The grant is part of the New England Patriots’ “Celebrate Volunteerism” program. Through an application process, the Patriots select schools in the New England area that are deserving of the money to help pay for activities in a variety of areas.

“Ours is exercise and healthy eating,” Ms. McAuliffe said.

The application was submitted by parent volunteer Joanne Waite, who leads an exercise program three mornings a week at the school. Rockwell School was selected from 134 applicants. The check presentation is expected to take place sometime in December, with members of the New England Patriots expected to arrive in Bristol for the occasion.

  1. Congratulations Rockwell on being selected to receive the Patriots’ $10,000 grant, and a special thank you to parent volunteer Joanne Waite for making it happen. I’m sure the day members of the New England Patriots team arrive at Rockwell for the presentation, will be a day the students will not forget. I’m so excited for everyone at the school. And on a side note, congratulations to 4th grade teachers Donna Celone and Judy Vincent for developing an enriching science curriculum that brought their school’s NECAP science scores to 82%. Way to go, Rockwell Rockets! Keep on soaring.
