Little Compton police: Urn washes up on shore


Wednesday, Dec. 12

A West Main Road resident found an urn containing cremated remains on his beachfront, and at 10:30 a.m. turned it over to police. The urn had a name on it, and Lt. Antone Marion located a family member who came to the station to retrieve the remains. The deceased had passed away sometime around or after 2004, police said, and in May, 2012, the urn was placed in the ocean off Jamestown.

Monday, Dec. 10

After hydroplaning over a puddle, a 55-year-old Fairhaven resident lost control of his car at 2:13 p.m. on Old Stone Church Road and struck a utility pole. He was uninjured, but his car sustained heavy damage.

Tuesday, Dec. 11

At 9:58 a.m., an Indian Road resident reported an act of apparent vandalism, consisting of a broken window on her camper.

Jill A. Sartini, 20, of 21 East View Drive, Little Compton, was charged at 9:58 a.m. under a court warrant for failure to pay fines, after an officer who knew of the warrant observed her driving a car on South of Commons Road.

At 8:44 p.m., Charles F. Sherman, 59, of 57 Francis Lane, Little Compton, was charged with domestic, simple assault.

Sunday, Dec. 16

After being stopped for speeding 70 mph in a 40 mph zone on West Main Road at 12:23 a.m., Hillary A. Joyce, 46, of 603 West Main Road, Little Compton, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with driving with an invalid license.

At 1:45 p.m. an Old Stone Church Road resident reported items missing from his home.
