A police officer said he was parked at the Hess station at the corner of Route 177 and Stafford Road at around 1:30 a.m. when he saw a southbound car run a red light. He pursued the vehicle but said that he lost sight of it after its lights were shut off and it sped up.

He searched the area and, turning onto King Road, found the vehicle overturned with its driver standing alongside. Carlie Crawford, 22, of 163 Deer Run Road, Tiverton, was charged with reckless driving, driving without proper lights, obedience to traffic control and lane violation.

She was unhurt but taken to the hospital to be checked out.
