To the editor,

As I sit here and reflect on Waddington’s 3rd Annual Family Fun and Food Event (Pasta Dinner) only two words continue to come to my mind…COMMUNITY and WOW!   I am so impressed with the dedication and commitment that this committee showed to put on an event of this magnitude.  I have heard so many positive comments over the past two days, that I am so overwhelmed.

To the Teachers:  I thank you.  I thank you for the continued support and time commitment that you put into helping with the night and the days leading up to the event.  To the ones who volunteered their Friday night to sell  tickets, served food, clean up, get arrested, or just supported the event by being there. I thank you!

To the Riverside Middle School: Thank you for allowing us to take over your building. Thank you, Mr. Prew for allowing me to bring in my brigades.  To the wonderful kitchen staff, I thank you. You once again when above and beyond for us. To the custodians, thank you for helping us get through the night and dealing with any of our extra messes that may have come up.

To the Parent Volunteers:  I thank you. So many of you stepped up to help secure donation, raffles, auction items and food.  I am not sure how many of you really knew what you were getting into when you signed up, but this event would have not been a success without you. I have made such good friends through working hand and hand with all of you. You are an amazing bunch of hard workers.

To the members of the School Committee and City Council:  I thank you!  I thank you for showing your support to the Waddington Elementary School & the Waddington PTA by attending our event.  For the members that were “arrested” I can honestly say I have never seen so many generous “inmates” in my life. Thank you for being part of our jail.

To the Bakers & Buyers:  What can I say, thank you!  Thank you for the many many cakes and desserts that were brought in to help, not only with our “cake walk” but also with our dessert table.  The cakes were beautiful. The Waddington Community you have baking talent.
To Superintendent Mercer and Interim Superintendent DeGoes: I thank you! Thank you for showing your support for Waddington Elementary school, by taking time out of your busy and hectic schedules to spend your Friday evening with us.  It has been a pleasure to work with you Dr. DeGoes; you truly are a class act.  Superintendent Mercer, I look forward to working with you on future endeavors to help support the East Providence Schools.

To the Waddington PTA & Board Members; I thank you. I thank you for believing in me and allowing me to chair this committee for the past three years. It has been such a pleasure to work with all of you.  I know at times I may seem a little unorganized and “crazy” (ok a lot crazy), but you always have my back.  All you of know, that when I put my heart and soul into something that I so strongly believe in that I will always follow through. This event I SO believe in.  This event is not only a fundraiser, but it had become a community event.

To Mrs. Barlow:  I thank you.  I thank you for the trust that you have instilled in me to represent your school and the belief that I can accomplish the goals that are set forth.  As busy as you are, you always had time for me when questions or concerns arose during the planning of this event.

To the Many Businesses and Monetary Donors:  Words can’t explain the thanks that I send to you.  Without you our event would not have gone on.  We depend solely on donations to put this event together.   We had all of our food, drinks and supplies donated by local restaurants, bakeries and supply companies. We had over 200 penny social items donated. Our volunteers were able to secure over hundreds of silent auction and raffle items. Thank you!  We have some very generous business in the area!

To the Entertainers: I thank you. Thank you for your musical performances, your unbelievable talent, your wonderful ability to entertain a huge diverse audience and your patience with the many children that required your attention.

To all the Waddington Wizards and their Families:  I thank you!  Thank you for spending your Friday evening with us.  For bringing your family and friends with you.  This event is a sure sign of Townie Pride.  It was so nice to see everyone having a wonderful time and enjoying an entertaining evening.  Thank you for the many raffle tickets that were sold. I was so impressed with the amount of money raised in the 50/50 raffle.  Thank you to the Waddington Safety Patrol Officers for coming to keep our event safe and clean.

To my Friends & Family, I love you!  You have stood by my side from day one.  There are no words to express how thankful I am to have all of you in my life.   To my friends who volunteered their time and energy to work with me on this event, I thank you.  To my parents and husband that had to deal with the hundreds of raffle items that scoured my floors for weeks, I thank you for your understanding.  To understand the hours and time that I put into this event can sometimes be very difficult to the ones closest to me.  I just want my family to know that, I love them and helping this school with this event means so much to me.

To Matthew & Sydney, I love you!  I do this for you!  It may take time to understand why, but there will be a day that you will understand why your mom wants you to have the best and equal education that I can give you. Sometimes people need to come together to help raise funds, so that we can get the supplies/items that are needed to help make you better students and lifelong learners.

To the Community: What started out three years ago in a small hall with no gas for cooking and where the attendance was less than 350, to this year’s event where we are looking at numbers over 700 people and an estimated guess close to raising over $13,500 ( silent auction money is still coming in) I would say we have achieved a goal.
When you believe you can achieve.

Thank you to everyone who made this event one for the record books. You have my sincere gratitude.
