jamielhouseOne of Warren’s most storied houses has a new owner.
An as-yet unnamed buyer has purchased the Jamiel House at 33 Miller St. through Realtor Dory Skemp of Coldwell Banker in Barrington. The sale has not yet been recorded at Warren Town Hall, but is expected to be by the end of the week.
Ms. Skemp would not comment on the sale price or owner since it has not yet closed, but she confirmed that the property is under contract.
The sale adds another chapter to one of Warren’s most infamous properties. Owned by Jonathan Jamiel, the 1789 Colonial is the site of the 1978 murder of his father Amon Jamiel, who was found shot to death in an upstairs bathroom. Amon was the owner of the House of A Million Items on Main Street, and was one of the most popular businessmen in town. In the months leading up to his death, though, Mr. Jamiel confided to family and friends that he believed money was missing from his store. The business burned to the ground on March 13, 1978 in what investigators believe was arson. Six days later, Mr. Jamiel was found shot to death in the upstairs shower. He had been shot 10 times — the shooter had to reload after firing off the first six rounds.

Amon Jamiel was murdered in 1978, and the killer has never been found.

Police identified several possible suspects over the years, including Jonathan Jamiel, his son. However, grand juries convened in 1979 and 1984 failed to return indictments against anyone. The case remains open.
The large Jamiel home at the corner of Union Street has been on the market for four years and was not an easy sell. Ms. Skemp was the 10th agent to list the home, and she had it listed for nearly a year before closing on the deal.
She declined to talk about the sale or about the new owner’s plans. However, the house was marketed over the years as both as a single family residence, and for possible future condominiums.
