Portsmouth Police and state Fire Marshal’s office investigators sift through the rubble the day after the fire.

PRUDENCE ISLAND — The state Department of Health announced Tuesday that longtime island resident Shannon Cubellis, 28,  was the victim of a September 25 fireat 0151 Concord Avenue on the island’s west side.

Portsmouth Police say that the medical examiner’s office used DNA evidence to confirm the victim’s identity.

The finding confirms what Prudence residents already knew. A week after the fire, over 200 people gathered at the Prudence Improvement Association Hall for a memorial service for Mr. Cubellis.

The cause of the intense blaze, which leveled the house, remains under investigation.
