EAST PROVIDENCE — Gusty winds over the last several hours took their toll on some power lines on North Broadway Thursday morning, Jan. 31, forcing traffic to be rerouted on the busy road.

East Providence Police officers and utility workers were on the scene attempting to rectify the situation.

It was a hectic morning in the city. Overnight, pipes burst at East Providence High School. Several inches of water flooded the north wing of the building, the addition added to structure several years ago abutting Pawtucket Avenue. The situation, unrelated to the severe weather, forced the cancellation of classes both Thursday and Friday, Feb. 1. The building is expected to be ready to reopen Monday, Feb. 4.
