Hearing date set for Prudence Island ferry challenger

A public hearing has been scheduled by the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers to go over A&R Marine’s application for a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN).
The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Hearing Room A of the PUC building, 89 Jefferson Blvd., in Warwick.
On Sept. 19, A&R Marine filed an application for a CPCN, permitting the company to run a ferry from Prudence Island to Bristol. Currently, that service is done by Prudence Island Ferry Inc., owned by Bruce Medley. Mr. Medley has provided that ferry service exclusively since the mid-80s.
The public is invited to attend.

  1. I think “A&R Marine” should be given the permission immediately. I do not understand this thing with “Medley”. First he says he is done with now he is not. Something smells here. Was this just to so Medley could get the $800,000 from Bristol for the dock and the taxpayers so we are now responsible for the dock? We all know the dock is crap. If he is going to keep running it, he should have the dock sale rescinded and forfeit the money back to the taxpayers of Bristol. All sounds like a scam to me? Anyone else see this as somewhat strange, considering the windfall he got by merely saying he was quitting and gets $800,000 of out taxpayers pockets and now he suddenly will not be retiring the business?

  2. Oh not to mention screwing others out of starting a business. Makes on wonder if there is a problem he has with the other business that wants to start up.
