State troopers from the Wickford Barracks stopped a car on Old Bulgarmarsh Road in Tiverton early Tuesday morning for a headlight violation.
When they checked the occupants’ identifications, they discovered that passenger Michael Pacheco, 33, of 83 Quarry St., Fall River, was wanted on a number of felony arrest warrants for four robberies in Fall River — two of them at banks and two at convenience stores.
Mr. Pacheco was placed into custody without incident and was brought to Rhode Island State Police headquarters where officers continued their investigation.
Mr. Pacheco was also interviewed by members of the Fall River Police Department regarding four robberies within two days.
Fall River Police say he robbed Tedeschi’s Food Mart, 1237 Pleasant St., at 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20. On Monday, police said Mr. Pacheco robbed BayCoast Bank, 1237 Pleasant St., at 9:02 a.m., St. Anne’s Credit Union, 1675 President Ave., at 9:23 a.m., and the 7-Eleven convenience store, 933 Pleasant St., at 10:12 p.m.
He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of obstruction of a police officer, operating on a suspended license, and fugitive from justice from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Mr. Pacheco was charged by the Fall River Police Department with unarmed robbery, two counts of attempt to commit a crime, armed robbery, and assault to commit a felony.
He waived extradition and was turned over to the Fall River Police Department. Mr. Pacheco is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial conference at Second Division District Court on November 5.
