On Saturday night people are invited to kick back, enjoy some delicious food and sample some tasty beers and wines, and listen to live music, all while helping raise money for the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless.

The “Taste of Barrington” event will be held at Grapes and Grains on Bosworth Street in Barrington from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 12, and will include appetizers from a number of local restaurants paired with sample tastes of beers and wines from Grapes and Grains. Participating restaurants and food shops include Sushi Express, Persimmon Provisions, Billy’s, Trendy’s Pizza, Chiazza, Tong D, Tyler Point Grille, Casual Catering, The Sweet Shoppe and Miz Fibz.

Pat McGee will offer up a special musical performance during the benefit event.

Matt Amaral, owner of Grapes and Grains, credited Julie Chalue and Peter Andrews with helping to organize the fund-raiser. He also said the local restaurant and shop owners were quick to accept invitations to participate.

“This came together with little to no effort,” he said.

Mr. Amaral, a former member of the town’s Housing Board of Trustees, said homelessness is a real problem in the East Bay.

“You don’t realize it, but there are people here who are homeless,” he said. “I drop off donations at Tap-In and you can see there’s a real need.”

Tickets for the event are $20 and can be purchased at Grapes and Grains or by calling the store at 245-2100.
On Thursday morning, Mr. Amaral said that about half the tickets were already sold and he anticipates the event being sold out by Saturday morning.
