It’s alleged that on Feb. 27, Mr. James stabbed and killed his ex-wife, Terry Chiodo of Portsmouth, on a RIPTA bus while it was traveling on West Main Road. Portsmouth Police conducted the initial investigation of the case, which is being prosecuted by the state attorney general’s office.
The suspect, of 8 Randall St., Pawtucket, has been held without bail since his arrest. He’s scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County Superior Court on Monday, July 22.
Mr. James has a lengthy rap sheet, with 20 arrests over the past 20 years for assault, breaking and entering, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and other charges.
The last previous murder in Portsmouth had taken place in 2002, when the manager of the Founder’s Brook Motel and Suites was killed in a murder-for-hire plot.
