Westport invites applications from town residents who are registered voters to fill a vacancy on the Planning Board.
Prospective candidates should send a letter of interest, a resume and background information to the Planning Department by Friday, Oct. 19. The position is filled by a joint appointment between the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen at an open meeting (scheduled for Monday, Oct. 29).
Helpful qualifications include, but are not limited to, land use/community planning, land use or real estate law, engineering, surveying, or architecture. The appointment shall be for less than a year, until the town election in 2013 at which time the incumbent would be required to run for the three-year duration of the vacated position.
The Planning Board generally meets the first and third Tuesday evening of each month, with additional work sessions and site visits as needed. Members are designated to serve as liaisons to other town boards and committees.
Duties include zoning, special permits, subdivisions and site plan review. In addition, the board has the responsibility for developing long-range land use planning tools for the community, including implementation and update of the 2004 Master Plan.
