TIVERTON — Town residents will get a chance Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. to look into the future of two major commercial areas in town, and to talk about them with planning board members and other town officials.

The town planning department is hosting a public workshop at that time in Town Hall, 343 Highland Road, to discuss draft changes to the town zoning code, especially those provisions relating to the general commercial districts along the north part of Main Road and Bliss Corners.

Planning Board Administrative Officer Kate Michaud said the general purpose of the proposed revisions is to make the code easier to interpret and to introduce more flexibility in non-residential uses of property.

Ms. Michaud said the revision project is “being managed by an interdepartmental steering committee, which includes representatives from the planning board and the planning department, the town council, the Economic Development Commission, the town building and zoning official, the town administrator, the statewide planning office, and the Newport County Chamber of Commerce.

For further information contact Kate Michaud at 401-625-6718 or planningboard@townoftivertonri.com.
