TIVERTON — Tiverton’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a “hazardous waste drop-off” on Saturday, Sept. 21, Town Administrator James Goncalo announced at the Tiverton Town Council meeting last week.

Called Eco-Depot, the service is set for the DPW headquarters at  50 Industrial Way, Tiverton, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m..

Mr. Goncalo said anyone wishing to participate should telephone the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) for an appointment, which is a requirement that RIRRC has established prior to allowing such waste products to be disposed of.

RIRRC’s phone number is 401-942-1430, ext. 241.

According to RIRRC, the most common household hazardous waste products are:

  • Oil-based paint (Note that latex and other water-based paints are not considered hazardous).
  • Rechargeable batteries (Note that single-use batteries are not considered hazardous).
  • Mercury containing devices (thermometers, thermostats, fluorescent bulbs).
  • Fertilizer and pool chemicals.
  • Automotive fluids.

PLEASE NOTE: The correct phone number to call for RIRRC to make an appointment is, as indicated above, 401-942-1430, ext. 241. An incorrect number was listed in the print version of this announcement that appeared in The Sakonnet Times on Thursday, Sept. 19. We apologize for the inconvenience.
