PORTSMOUTH — It’s that time of year again.
The Town of Portsmouth is selling 2014 vehicle stickers that allow local residents the use of the transfer station on Hedley Street.
Stickers cost $130 — the same as last year — and $10 for one additional vehicle per household. The stickers are good for one year, with a courtesy extension through Jan. 31, 2015. No one will be admitted to the transfer station without a valid 2014 sticker after Jan. 31, 2014.
To obtain a sticker, you must bring a copy of your valid registration showing you are registered in Portsmouth for each vehicle for which you are requesting a sticker. Residents with leased vehicles must provide proof of automobile insurance showing their Portsmouth address at which they reside.
For full details of the program, go to www.portsmouthri.com. You will receive transfer station rules when you receive your sticker.
Stickers are available for sale at the Tax Collector’s office at Portsmouth Town Hall during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Tax Collector’s office will also be open for sticker sales only from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Stickers may be obtained through the mail using the form available on the Town’s website and Town Hall. Mail applications may be deposited in the tax payment drop box at the Town Hall.
The transfer station is for the disposal of residential household waste only. No waste from businesses, contractors, landscapers, car dealerships (dealer plates) or any form of commercial or agricultural activity is accepted.
Recycling is mandated by state law, and state regulations have increased Portsmouth’s recycling goal to 35 percent. Changes are being made at the transfer station to reach this goal, and the town asks residents for their patience.
