TIVERTON — The much-delayed (due to weather) on-ramp from Main Road westbound onto the Sakonnet River Bridge opened Friday morning, May 31, after striping of the roadway the night before was completed.

Rose Amoros, spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) made the announcement Thursday afternoon, as good weather for the work seemed certain.

Bad weather has delayed the project for several weeks. Final striping operations are weather-dependent and done at night to lessen the impact on traffic on Route 24, Ms. Amoros said.

The new Main Road on-ramp, RIDOT officials said, aligns better with the new bridge and has a much longer acceleration lane than the ramp it replaces, and will make it easier for traffic to merge with Route 24 South.
