Barrington candidates turn out for debate

Fifteen candidates seeking election to local and state officers fielded a host of questions in a series of debates Wednesday evening.

Those on hand included candidates for Barrington Town Council, School Committee and the State House of Representatives Dists. 66 and 67. The only candidate not on hand was Ann Strong, who is seeking election to the town council but is out of the country on business.

The debates were held at town hall and were sponsored by the League of Women Voters and East Bay Newspapers.

Topics covered during the evening ranged from education to pension reform, 38 Studios funding, legislative grants and casino gambling among other issues.

Each debate will be aired on Full Channel (Channel 9) television in coming days. The schedule is as follows:

Saturday, Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 8 a.m.

Monday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday, Nov. 3 at 12:30 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.

The debates are also scheduled to be posted at www.lwvri.org.
